McDonalds App invasive and anti-consumer security policies
I think this article needs to be extended with a section addressing the "security" policies in the McDonalds global app. Around October 2025, McDonalds implemented very obscure system scans in the application for the following, without which, the app may or may not start:

- No third party apps installed (reported by others)

- Play services required (confirmed by me)

- No third party app markets installed (F-Droid, Aptoide...) (reported by others)

- No mod apps installed (Lucky Patcher, HappyMod...) (confirmed by me)

- No root access enabled (reported by others)

- No developer mode enabled (reported by others)

- No custom ROMs (reported by others)

Possibly more, but McDonalds doesn't explicitly say anywhere what exactly is required for the app to run, or what will prevent it from running.

This has dropped their Google Play reviews to 2.3 stars, but they don't seem to care, and have instead started pushing users to install the app forcefully by removing services previously offered in-store like table service, and only offering that through the app. Possibly more information to be addded to the article.

I have never contributed to the Consumer Rights Wiki, and am not sure how to include this in the article, but I'd be willing to provide as much info as I have on the topic and do further research if needed.

I think it is worth noting I am from Spain, so the above may only partially, or not at all apply to the US or other regions, although, this being the supposedly global app, I would assume it does.
Using third-party autofill (Bitwarden, 1Password) stopped working in Google Chrome for Android. Google Pass Manager is softly imposed for a more fluent user experience. Even deleting all the passwords and disabling Google Autofill does not work.
AllTrails sneakily revoked lifetime licenses and forced subscription on users
As per title. AllTrails at some point AllTrails was offering lifetime subscriptions that were discontinued in 2019 (see Business Response here).

They have also had shady marketing practices whereby users believed they were buying perpetual licenses but in reality the T&C had in its small print that these licenses were for a 3-year-plan (again, see earlier comments here and here too).

While this probably doesn't count as "evidence", I know a person who bought one of such lifetime licenses and after a few years a few devices later, they reinstalled AllTails only to find out that their license magically disappeared. They contacted their customer service who denied restoring the lifetime license at all despite all personal details of purchaser had been provided. AllTrails solicited a proof of transaction which the buyer couldn't find due to the time that lapsed. Either way, Reddit reports suggest that the best case-scenario would be offering a 3-year-plan (see comments here).

Look, I'm VERY far from a fan of the Indonesian government, but banning social media for children under 16 is by no means comparable to the anti-consumer practices that this site is meant to document. Not only is there ample evidence that social media has negative effects on children's health and mental development, the companies behind it are part of the same class that gets richer and richer from anti-consumer practices. If the issue is that the mechanisms intended to prevent children from accessing it are violating users' privacy and ownership rights, I can understand how it fits into this and I think it's worth looking into, but then the entry should be about that, not about banning social media. Please do not normalise giving kids access to products that were consciously and deliberately designed to be addictive.

I suggest either removing the entry or going deeper into why the law is harmful -- and if it is indeed harmful, it's not because of the social media ban itself.

(adding this here since I cannot edit the page. Happened to me personally and I have found evidence of it happening to more people)

Using third-party autofill (Bitwarden, 1Password) stopped working in Google Chrome for Android. Google Pass Manager is softly imposed for a more fluent user experience. Even deleting all the passwords and disabling Google Autofill does not work.

:Adding one more thing here. Android does not allow third-party passkey providers like Bitwarden to support passkey-based authentication. There is currently no way to use passkeys stored in Bitwarden in Android, the Google passkey manager pops up instead.

McDonalds App invasive and anti-consumer security policies
I think this article needs to be extended with a section addressing the "security" policies in the McDonalds global app. Around October 2025, McDonalds implemented very obscure checks in the application for the following, without which, the app simply does not start:

- No third party apps installed

- Play services working and with MEETS_STRONG_INTEGRITY flag

- No third party app markets installed (F-Droid, Aptoide...)

- No mod apps installed (Lucky Patcher, HappyMod...)

- No root access enabled

- No developer mode enabled

- No custom ROMs

- Possibly more, but it doesn't say anywhere

The above are all speculative checks that are not confirmed or denied by McDonalds.

This has dropped their Google Play reviews to 2.3 stars, but they don't seem to care, and have instead started pushing users to install the app forcefully by removing services previously offered in-store like table service, and only offering that through the app.

Cody (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

McDonalds App invasive and anti-consumer security policies
I think this article needs to be extended with a section addressing the "security" policies in the McDonalds global app. Around October 2025, McDonalds implemented very obscure checks in the application for the following:

Cody (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
