===User account required to configure devices===
One compelling selling point of Razer gear and the computer mouses is customization of the devices. This can be done through the Synapse software<ref>{{Cite web |title=Synapse 4 |url=https://www.razer.com/synapse-4 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250421162457/https://www.razer.com/synapse-4 |archive-date=2025-04-21 |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Razer.com}}</ref>. Version 3.5.1215.121019 (released in 2020) seems to work with limited functionality with a "Guest" account (no login), which still allows for a full configuration of the devices<ref>Own user experience.</ref>.
===Bluetooth functionality breaks due to supposed firm ware error===
It has been reported on many occasions, that the Bluetooth functionality of the Pro Click and Pro Click Mini devices can easily break during normal use.

The Bluetooth functionality is limited to three different actions by design: A slider enables Bluetooth, a button cycles through three different connection profiles and if not already connected, a channel goes directly into pairing mode. Channels are identified by colors (blue, green, yellow). Pairing mode is displayed by a blink-blink-pause pattern, connection mode by a single long on-time before the LED turns off<ref>{{Cite web |title=How to pair or connect a wireless mouse to a system via Bluetooth or USB Dongle |url=https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5387/~/how-to-pair-or-connect-a-wireless-mouse-to-a-system-via-bluetooth-or-usb-dongle |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250421163840/https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5387/~/how-to-pair-or-connect-a-wireless-mouse-to-a-system-via-bluetooth-or-usb-dongle |archive-date=2025-04-21 |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Mysupport.Razer.com}}</ref>.

Users of the devices have noticed, that once every channel has been paired to a device once, one can no longer enter pairing mode in any channel. The LED keeps blinking, but the device can not be seen by any other Bluetooth-capable device in range. The computer mice might not even connect to formerly paired devices anymore<ref>Own experience while troubleshooting.</ref>. Pressing the button for three-five seconds or longer also does nothing. Since there are no hardware-reset buttons or similar measures built into the device, there is no physical way of resetting the connections. Some users have reported, that connecting to an Android or Linux device can teporarily "fix" this bug. However, this seems to require at least one of the three channels to be still free to connect. Some users supposedly had success in disconnecting and then completely removing their mice from the Bluetooth list of their Windows or Linux devices. Firmware updates have yet to address the bug. When all three Bluetooth channels are blocked by the bug, there is no way for the Synapse software to recognize the device anymore. It seems, the RF USB dongle does not offer extended connectivity and only transmits mouse movement and button presses. The functionality of the RF dongle is not affected in any way by the bug. Without a possibility to connect to Razer update software<ref>{{Cite web |title=Software and Firmware Updates for Razer Peripherals |url=https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4166/~/software-and-firmware-updates-for-razer-peripherals |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250421164348/https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4166/~/software-and-firmware-updates-for-razer-peripherals |archive-date=2025-04-21 |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Mysupport.Razer.com}}</ref>, firmware updates for the mice are impossible to conduct (updating the RF USB dongle is still possible, but this will not fix the BT issue).

As of April 2025, there is no official statement by Razer regarding this issue. Customer requests are seemingly answered, but end with no solution to the bug other than replacement devices (which may break again soon after).

Pairing mode is displayed by a blink-blink-pause pattern, connection mode by a single long on-time before the LED turns off<ref>{{Cite web |title=How to pair or connect a wireless mouse to a system via Bluetooth or USB Dongle |url=https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5387/~/how-to-pair-or-connect-a-wireless-mouse-to-a-system-via-bluetooth-or-usb-dongle |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Mysupport.Razer.com}}</ref>.

Without a possibility to connect to Razer update software<ref>{{Cite web |title=Software and Firmware Updates for Razer Peripherals |url=https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4166/~/software-and-firmware-updates-for-razer-peripherals |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Mysupport.Razer.com}}</ref>, firmware updates for the mice are impossible to conduct (updating the RF USB dongle is still possible, but this will not fix the BT issue).

As of April 2025, there is no official statement by Razer regarding this issue. Customer requests are seemingly answered, but end with no solution to the bug other than replacement devices (which may break again soon after).
===User account required to configure devices===
One compelling selling point of Razer gear and the computer mouses is customization of the devices. This can be done through the Synapse software<ref>{{Cite web |title=Synapse 4 |url=https://www.razer.com/synapse-4 |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Razer.com}}</ref>. There may have been ways to circumvent this in the past<ref>{{Cite web |date=2018 |title=Synapse without a login |url=https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/978py2/synapse_without_a_log_in/ |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Reddit.com}}</ref>. Version 3.5.1215.121019 (released in 2020) seems to work with limited functionality with a "Guest" account (no login), which still allows for a full configuration of the devices<ref>Own user experience.</ref>. For Linux, there is an open source alternative for the software<ref>{{Cite web |title=OpenRazer Features |url=https://openrazer.github.io/ |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=OpenRazer.Github.io}}</ref>. A Windows port of this Linux software exists, but as of April 2025 the files have not been updated for at least four years<ref>{{Cite web |title=OpenRazer win32 |url=https://github.com/CalcProgrammer1/openrazer-win32 |access-date=2025-04-19 |website=Github.com/CalcProgrammer1}}</ref> (the port might still work regardless).

Since there are no hardware-reset buttons or similar measures built into the device, there is no physical way of resseting the connections.

==Controversies==

=== HP adds 15 minutes to all customer service phone calls ===
{{Main|HP adds 15 minutes to all customer service phone calls}}
In February 2025, HP Inc. instituted a policy to artificially force all consumer PC & print customers to wait a minimum of 15 minutes when calling support.

===Ink Required to Scan and Fax===
{{Main|HP Printers Ink Requirements Controversy}}
To use the scanning and faxing feature on some HP all-in-one printers, all cartridges must not be too low on ink.

===Account Required to Scan===
To use the scanning feature on some HP printers, both the HP app and a HP account are required.{{citation needed}}

===Firmware Updates stop HP Printers from working (Errors 79 and 49)===
An over-the-air update for some HP printer products (DeskJets and LaserJets) with network capabilites caused errors 79 and 49 to be shown on the user interface of these devices, softlocking the printers. In some instances, these faulty updates were not avoidable, because the "update" prompt had to be accepted to access the printer again. First reports of this showed up in public around october 2022<ref>https://www.borncity.com/blog/2022/11/17/okt-2022-firmware-update-macht-hp-drucker-mit-service-error-49-unbrauchbar/ (original in german); https://borncity.com/win/2022/11/17/oct-2022-firmware-update-bricks-hp-printer-with-error-49-or-79/ (english version of the webpage)</ref> . In some cases, the devices could be recovered<ref>https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Color-LaserJet-Pro-MFP-M281fdw-shows-49-Service-Error-after/m-p/8540292/highlight/true#M962703</ref>, but for an unknown amount of users, no officially or inofficially provided fix was applicable. This effectively lead to bricked devices that had to be replaced, often times but not always right after the warranty period had ended.

===Artificially inflated waiting time on telephone support===
Leaked internal communication has revealed in February 2025 that HP is enforcing a deliberate minimum 15 minute wait time on all phone support calls made by printer and PC customers in order to push the callers towards using cheaper online support channels instead.<ref>https://www.theregister.com/2025/02/20/hp_deliberately_adds_15_minutes/</ref>

==Products/Services==
===HP Instant Ink===
{{Main|HP Instant Ink}}

HP Instant Ink refers to a subscription service for certain printers in which recipients may receive a set amount of HP Ink Cartridges each month. It has recently come into controversy for changing into a program with various limiting features in 2024.

===HP Dynamic Security===
{{Main|HP Dynamic Security}}

HP Dynamic Security refers to a system in some HP printers to restrict the use of aftermarket ink cartridges, ensuring only original cartridges can be used.
