ok so i have talked to customers, i have used brand new in the box models and had this exact thing happen purely because of the app update, i have some reviews but sourcing this article is an absolute pain, i am either going dumpster diving through reviews which while backing my up isn't in keeping with source reliability and introduces problems when customers talk about unrelated problems. maybe the consumer rights page could introduce some kind of polling function because i doubt mainstream stories are going to remain impartial enough to be used, as it is i doubt that everyone is going to see something then do two hours worth of research to work out if they have enough evidence to say something, creating some king of system where people can simply put their piece up, have some kind of statistical verification to show that real other people this problem and a tech guy to investigate that problem and put the evidence up for us to source would improve thing a bit, idk, what is everyone else's thought [[User:Notsure|Notsure]] ([[User talk:Notsure|talk]]) 13:33, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

SanDisk has officially deprecated support for the legacy "iXpand Drive" application. Existing users are now prompted via a mandatory pop-up to migrate to the new SanDisk Memory Zone app. However, the new app has introduced significant compatibility issues with legacy Lightning-based iXpand drives

==Background==
SanDisk’s iXpand Flash Drive
line, including the iXpand Drive Go, Luxe, and Flip models, was designed to provide external storage and automatic backup for iPhone and iPad users via a dedicated iXpand Drive App. These devices rely on proprietary software to bypass iOS file system limitations for direct media playback and photo backups.

==Incident==
On 30 April 2025, SanDisk officially ended support for the iXpand Drive App
<ref name="SanDiskEOS">{{cite web |url=https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/52267/~/ixpand-drive-app-end-of-support |title=iXpand Drive App End of Support |publisher=SanDisk Support |access-date=2025-05-01}}</ref>
, removing it from the Apple App Store. The company began a forced transition to the SanDisk Memory Zone app. This shift created significant functionality issues for older drives, as the company says some legacy hardware requires a firmware update to be recognised by the new app
<ref name="FirmwareUpdate">{{cite web |url=https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/52005/~/steps-to-resolve-a-drive-not-detected-in-memory-zone-for-ios |title=Steps to Resolve Drive Not Detected in Memory Zone |publisher=SanDisk Support |access-date=2025-05-01}}</ref>
. Users have reported that the transition essentially "breaks" the plug-and-play compatibility they originally purchased, particularly for older Lightning-based devices.
<ref name="RedditConsumer">{{cite web |url=https://www.reddit.com/r/sandisk/comments/1k6kc3p/just_learned_theyre_ending_ixpand_app_what/

==SanDisk's Response==
SanDisk stated that the transition is part of a commitment to newer products that better fit current user needs. The company advises that:

- Users can continue to use the old app if already installed, but it will no longer receive updates.
- Data can still be accessed via the iOS Files App or on Windows/macOS, though this removes the automated backup features of the original app.
- A Firmware Update may be required for certain iXpand Luxe
and Phone Drive
- models to function with the new Memory Zone app.

==Consumer response==
Consumers have expressed frustration over the perceived planned obsolescence of their hardware. Key complaints include:

Reduced Functionality: The Memory Zone app reportedly lacks the real-time download progress and robust search features of the original software.
Performance Issues: Users have noted slow loading times, choppy video playback, and frequent disconnections when using the new interface.
Compatibility Gaps: Some users found that their specific drive serial numbers starting with legacy codes are not fully supported by the new software ecosystem.
==Background==
Vodafone Australia is a major telecommunications provider offering cellular data services via SIM-based mobile plans and fixed-wireless 4G/5G routers. Historically, Vodafone has positioned itself as a value-driven competitor to Telstra and Optus, often trading lower price points for a more condensed geographic coverage footprint.<ref>WhistleOut, "Who has the best mobile coverage?", https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Guides/who-has-the-best-mobile-coverage</ref>

==Incident==
As of June 2025, Vodafone has moved to deprecate native IPv4 addressing on its mobile broadband APNs. While modern smartphones and PC operating systems utilize dual-stack or transition mechanisms (like DNS64/NAT64) to maintain connectivity, many legacy devices lack the internal protocol stack to communicate over an IPv6-only network.

Testing conducted by a consumer advocate, author of this article confirmed that the following devices fail to negotiate a connection when behind a Vodafone 4G/5G gateway:
*<nowiki>**Gaming Consoles:** PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch (specifically affecting connection to Nintendo store ).</nowiki>
*<nowiki>**Smart Media:** Various legacy Smart TV platforms and older IoT hardware.</nowiki>

This follows a long-standing history of inconsistent IPv4/IPv6 implementation within Vodafone's infrastructure, which has previously caused routing issues for Australian consumers.<ref>Whirlpool Forums, "Vodafone IPv6," https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2770930</ref>

==Vodafone's response==
Vodafone technical support has stated that the removal of native IPv4 is a necessary step due to the global exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. Support representatives have indicated that IPv4 is considered a legacy protocol and suggested that competitors such as Telstra and Optus are moving toward similar IPv6-primary architectures.<ref>Direct correspondence with Vodafone Technical Support, June 2025</ref>

==Possible Resolutions==
Affected consumers may attempt the following workarounds to restore connectivity for non-IPv6 devices:
*<nowiki>**APN Modification:** Manually forcing the APN protocol to "IPv4" in router settings (though this is increasingly being blocked at the network level).</nowiki>
*<nowiki>**Layer 3 Translation:** Utilizing a Cisco router, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), or a Linux-based gateway to perform Network Address Translation (NAT) or tunneling.</nowiki>
*<nowiki>**VPN Tunnels:** Using a router-level VPN that provides a consistent IPv4 endpoint for the local network. </nowiki><ref>Cisco Troubleshooting, "Understanding Nat64" https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/network-address-translation-nat/217208-understanding-nat64-and-its-configuratio.html </ref>

==Background==

==Incident==

==Vodafone's response==

==Possible Resolutions==
