Texas Instruments has recently forced users holding perpetual licenses to the TI-Nspire Student Software to a new, account-based subscription model with a fixed four-year term. A side effect of the required subscriptions are that users will be able to take full advantage of their calculator for only the duration of the subscription that came with the calculator without paying more for an extended subscription. Another implication is that the resale value of the calculator will be reduced after the subscription key is used because the new owner will have to purchase a subscription for the Student Software separately.
