==Incidents== {{Ph-C-Inc}} ===Chatmix proprietary software (''2022'')=== Many SteelSeries gaming headsets feature "Chatmix", a physical dial that allows the user to easily adjust the balance between game audio and voice chat. Headsets with the Chatmix feature traditionally presented their game and chat channels to the computer as two separate devices, allowing the user to assign the channels directly in the operating system and the audio chat software respectively. Starting with the Arctis 7+ headset, Chatmix channels can only be configured by using SteelSeries GG, the manufacturer's proprietary software. The module of the software required for the Chatmix dial on the headset to work, is only accessible if the user is logged into a SteelSeries account.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Why the fuck do I need an account now to use sonar? Just let me use my hardware sound control an be gone with this goddamn account I won't ever use. |url=https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/wdnu17/why_the_fuck_do_i_need_an_account_now_to_use/|author=u/slojonej|work=Reddit|date=2022-08-01|access-date=2025-08-17}}</ref> This has the following consequences for users of modern SteelSeries headsets: *Users are required to create and log into an online account in order to use a hardware feature of their product. *The feature can only be used on computers running Windows. *The extra layer of required, unreliable software adds complexity, and often requires troubleshooting sound issues.
