In March 2023, a BlackVue app update began requiring users to create an account & log in before accessing their dashcam, even over a direct Wi-Fi connection. Users on DashCamTalk reported being unable to download incident footage without an internet login & described the new app as "horrid."<ref name="dct-2023" />

BlackVue responded on the same DashCamTalk thread. On March 23, 2023, Pittasoft released version 3.42, which added a Guest mode allowing direct Wi-Fi access without a login requirement.<ref name="dct-2023" /> The reversal took 8 days from the initial complaints.
