I am using the visual editor. When I put the name of an existing page in the single available parameter, all I get is '''Error: no page names specified'''. I think the template or the visual editor are broken somehow.

The source for the template looks the same as on wikipedia.

I got as far as figuring out that the visual editor relies on something called "Template data" (whatever that is).
