In 2019, a lawsuit was filed alleging the lifetime memberships that costed $357-$755 should be good for the life of the consumer rather than the device itself.[8] The lawsuit was settled in 2021, with 964,000 individuals receiving $421.5 million in benefits.[9] These benefits included either to reactivate the lifetime subscription or recover $100 according to the attorneys associated with the case.[10]
A similar suit was filed in 2018, but was later dismissed and settled out of court in 2020.[11] SiriusXM no longer offers lifetime memberships.
