*Sig has been failing to address customer concern to some extent with the safety of their P320 and their M17 model of pistols. these are effectively the same firearm though for the civilian and military markets respectively. this has been brought to court rather frequently and culminated in at least several investigations.

*A 2023 investigation by ''The Washington Post'' and ''The Trace'' found more than 100 people who say their P320 discharged with no trigger pressure; at least 80 of them were wounded as a result. At least 35 of the shootings are purported to have occurred with either post-2017 P320s with the updated design intended to address the drop firing problem, or older ones which had been updated by SIG Sauer.

The 2025 Sig Sauer P320 manual adds a change specifying that users should not carry the firearm with a round in the chamber. This goes against many voices in the community of people who concealed carry as in a situation that warrants use of the firearm there is no guarantee that an individual will have the opportunity to rack the slide before firing. This is a new amendment to the manual that was not present in prior years and may be verified on the documentation page for the gun.
