Pixel 4a Battery Performance Program: Difference between revisions

all batteries carry the same brand name (sunwoda), amperex and lishen is only the brand that actually makes the cells and that information isn't printed on the label, having a user open up their phone for this would be completely pointless.

m Further clarified that only the serial number on the battery can be used for identification, not the brand name (thank you anon)

Hector Martin has analyzed the software update of the Pixel 4a. He determined that the battery profiles had changed such that "LSN" batteries (e.g. "Lishen"?) have a significantly lower charge limit.<ref>https://social.treehouse.systems/@marcan/113914172433692339</ref> Presumably this means that battery replacements will only restore battery performance if the battery is replaced with an "ATL" battery ("Amperex Technology Limited"). It is possible to differentiate between the manufactures by looking at the serial number on the battery. 8230015901 is ATL and 8230020501 is LSN.

[[#Technical evidence of battery changes|Initial reverse engineering efforts]] suggest that you can identify if your battery is bad by looking at the serial number. If you're going to replace the battery outside of Google's program, make sure you're getting a battery with the serial number "8230015901", which will probably carry the brand name "Amperex Technology Limited".
