Background

Smart connect, the app used to control the device using Bluetooth, has been discontinued since August 2025 as the cloud service (only used for login), is taken offline, making it impossible for new users to set the time on the clock. In the meantime, Amazon allows third party sellers to sell the product since 2021.

Consumer response

Note people found out that if you have the app linked already and block certain outgoing requests it still works.

Set your phone to airplane mode and turn on Bluetooth, THEN open the app. Some options are still greyed out. The app could have been set to offline mode only, but it WASN'T.

January 2026. This is a typical end-of-life clearance scenario.

A concrete example currently visible on Dealabs and Amazon France: the Fisher-Price Lumalou Musical Night Light (GWM53), heavily promoted during the Winter Sales with discounts close to 40–50%, presented as a “record low price” and framed as a smart, connected 3-in-1 sleep assistant.

What the deal description highlights:

• A structured bedtime routine assistant
• A “Ready to Wake” sleep training system
• Night light and sound machine
• Remote control and full configuration via the Smart Connect mobile app

What is not clearly stated upfront:

• The mobile application has been discontinued
• The product is no longer connected or remotely configurable
• Once power is cut, the device resets to factory settings
• Without the app, the core functionality becomes unusable

User feedback confirms this repeatedly: despite the hardware still powering on, the product has lost its operational value due to the shutdown of its software ecosystem. Attempts to preserve functionality using an offline phone fail as soon as the device is unplugged or reset.

This explains the aggressive pricing:

• Third-party sellers are liquidating obsolete stock
• The product is technically “new” but functionally deprecated
• Marketplaces act as high-velocity clearance channels
• Disclosure of software end-of-life is minimal or buried

The discount is not a bargain. It is a signal: functional obsolescence masked as a promotion.
