Samsung quietly disables bootloader in One UI 8 worldwide where previously it only affected the U.S..
Samsung globally disabled the ability for consumers to unlock the bootloaders on their Galaxy devices, eliminating the possibility of installing custom operating systems discovered by a contributor to custom ROM's, known as  "[https://xdaforums.com/t/bootloader-unlocking-option-removed-from-one-ui-8-0.4751904/ salvo_giangri]"<ref name=":0">{{Cite web |last=Sharma |first=Adamya |orig-date=July 27, 2025 |title=Samsung may be killing bootloader unlocking on all phones with One UI 8 |url=https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-bootloader-unlocking-disabled-one-ui-8-3581366/}}</ref>.  At the time One UI 8 was still in beta and there was hope that it would no longer be the case in the stable release,  however with the stable version release in July 25th 2025 on Galaxy Z Fold 7 / Z Flip 7 family, the restriction was still present.<ref>{{Cite web |orig-date=July 26, 2025 |title=Stable One UI 8 removed Bootloader settings from Developer options: Report |url=https://www.sammyfans.com/2025/07/26/stable-one-ui-8-removed-bootloader-settings-from-developer-options-report/}}</ref>

Samsung has not made an statement regarding this situation and has remained silent despite getting questioned on a post in [https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Community/ct-p/us?page=1&tab=recent_topics Samsung Community] whether the bootloader will remain unlocked when updating from One UI 7 to 8.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2025-09-26 |title=One UI 8 OEM unlock restriction |url=https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Legacy-S-Phones/One-UI-8-OEM-unlock-restriction/m-p/3367680}}</ref>  This post also elaborates that in this user's case he, or she will lose [[wikipedia:Samsung_Knox|Knox]] functionality which is a huge issue since Knox plays a huge role for the security and stability of the phone.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2025-11-29 |title=What is Samsung Knox? |url=https://www.samsungknox.com/en/blog/what-is-samsung-knox-1}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Samsung Knox |url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Knox}}</ref>

The feedback from the community and anyone that was aware of this was mostly, if not completely negative. Much of that negative feedback mainly based off losing freedom and damaging the brand of Android's "open source" nature,<ref>{{Cite web |title=Bootloader locked on one ui 8 |url=https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/other-smartphones/bootloader-locked-on-one-ui-8/td-p/14155559}}</ref><ref name=":2" />
