E.Coli incident(1992-1993)

From November 15 through February 28, Jack in the Box hamburgers were found to contain E. coli 0157:H7 after an increase number of children was found to contain hemolytic uremic syndrome, resulting in an investigation from the Washington Department of Health reporting the incident primary impacted children, with over 700 customers becoming sick and resulting in 4 deaths. Later reports showcased the company not following food health standards of cooking beef patties at 155 degrees over high demand from the Monster Burger promotion. In response, the company issued an recall of ground beef, covering medical costs of affected individuals, and filling lawsuits against its suppliers.

In 1993 on March 14, the company faced a lawsuit, resulting in a $12 million settlement on July 28.

Drive-thru is not for visual impaired customers -- 2020

Two customers filed a lawsuit against Jack in the Box on April 29 for allegedly discriminating against visually impaired individuals by providing food services only through drive-thru during nighttime hours. However, the case was dismissed due to a lack of evidence suggesting the two individuals being discriminated against.

"The fast-food chain maintained that equal burden was placed on all pedestrians in that no one is allowed to walk through the drive-thru. The late-night Jack In The Box drive-thru policy “affects people based on, at most, their inability to drive for any reason, not on the basis of any disability,”

Failure to provide equal access to soda dispenser machine to customers

On August 20, 2019, Jack in the Box was sued for violating The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by failure to provide ease of access to visually impaired individuals. As of March 2026, the lawsuit is still ongoing.

Spamming advertising messages without consent

In 2020 Jack in the Box was hit with a class action lawsuit against Igor P. for allegedly failing to gain consent from customers before sending them text messages, a violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. As of March 2026, the lawsuit is still ongoing.

Jack in the Box falsely labeling packaging as recyclable

On April 25, 2024, Nicole Ozonian filed an class action lawsuit over the company misuse of recycling symbol over the materials not being accepted across several recycling facilities, deceiving customers into paying more because of the belief that their product will be recyclable. The lawsuit is in progress as of March 7, 2026.
