Tinder, created in 2012, is a dating app that allows you to find other people to form relationships.

Subscribing

As is common practice among dating sites today, subscribing on Tinder requires one click (after entering credit-card and address information).

Unsubscribing

If a user wishes to terminate their recurring subscription, they are expected to go through many hoops and tricks in order to unsubscribe. ^{[citation needed]}

Subscription costs

Tinder’s recurring subscription costs are not transparently displayed. The true costs are listed as weekly (rather than monthly), obscuring the true cost of the subscriptions.

Subscription plans

Tinder has three subscription plans that give users various benefits depending on their chosen plan:

• Plus: Users cannot see who likes them, nor can users contact them unless they also match with the user. This is already included in the free plan.

• Gold: Users can see who likes them, but are still unable to message them unless they also match with the user.

• Platinum: Users can send a message to somebody before first matching with them.

Canceling a subscription

The process of canceling a Tinder subscription is both inconvenient and difficult to understand. This information is not located on the bottom of their page. Moreover, canceling an account on the Tinder service does not cancel a subscription. Depending on the payment method used, there are various obstacles to cancellation:

• Apple Pay: Users must contact Apple and use "Report a problem" in order to cancel their service.

• Google Play: Users are required to contact Google Play. Tinder's own documentation says that this means users must request assistance from Google Play. Thus, there are no direct buttons to push to facilitate cancellation.

• Credit card: Tinder does not provide information on how to cancel, so users may have to file a charge back.^{[citation needed]} Tinder warns that if a charge back is unsuccessful, it will keep the charged costs.^{[citation needed]} Additionally, users’ accounts may be deleted at Tinder's discretion, and charges may continue to accrue on a user’s provided credit card until the subscription is canceled using an "External Service Account".
