Are Imgur, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram really competing with Reddit? I'd say that reddit is different enough as a social media platform (with subreddits and splitting topics into different communities) that it should be noted as not a direct competitor to these platforms. My hope is that someone could see that and be inspired to make a reddit-like network that has more freedom as a platform. Also, I think would be a lot easier for people to move from reddit to some other reddit-like platform than it was for people to move from X to Bluesky/Threads/whatever else because theres less of a need to move a followerbase like there was on X, so theres some motivation to do it, i just think it needs to be known that its possible.
