Apple Self Service Repair is a service offered by Apple that provides repair manuals, genuine Apple parts and tools for consumers to repair Apple devices. [1] The service first became available in the United States in April 2022 [2], and expanded to additional countries throughout 2022. [3]

User Freedom
[edit | edit source]While Apple’s self‑service repair program nominally expands repair options, it still limits which components can be serviced by end users. Certain parts remain unavailable, preserving a barrier to full DIY repair.
Certain parts cannot be purchased separately (e.g., keyboards can only be purchased with a top case). Leading to higher prices for the end user and waste.
Performing a repair outside Apple‑approved channels can also void warranty coverage, discouraging users from exercising the option.
User Privacy
