Mojang announced on October 21 2020 that Minecraft will be moving from Mojang accounts to Microsoft accounts. Migration started June 2021 with the deadline being December 18th 2024. After this deadline Mojang gave a 90 day extension to give you a new copy of the while losing your original account.
