I knew using an e-reader was a bad idea at least I wasn't dumb enough to buy a Kindle! My pocket Book e-reader is now trying to force me to accept some "Privacy Notice" in order to use the browser. Consequently I have revoked it's internet access and the device I paid for is now worth much less to me.

I'll look to see how hard it is to jailbreak the stupid thing but that takes time and time is money and if we had a functional legal system I would be able to sue them. ...and I'm going to stop typing now as I'm more than a little frustrated!

indeed! with firmware update 5.18.1 the most popular jailbreaking software (winterbreak) became impossible to install onto YOUR device. Which led to restrictions such as: ties to amazon (amazon being able to alter your books without your knowledge or consent) and not being able to upload custom os and ui.

Now of course with softwares like calibre you can still rip books (as of aug 2025) but that is third party software and fairly hard to do if you just jump in head first. This move by amazon is very anti right-to-repair/mod and is absurd because as of now it is still legally your device!
