Chevron Killed Protestors
In 1998, Nigerian military shot at protestors, killing two people and injuring others on Chevron's platform. The company was suspected to paid the Nigerian soldiers and flown on Chevron helicopters. The incident went to trial in 2008 as Bowoto v. Chevron Corp, finding Chevron not liable for any damages caused, however it was ruled that it was directly involved in the attacks. [1] [2]

Cybersecurity Attack
In May 31, 2023, Progress Software notified Chevron Federal Credit Union (CFCU) of a critical vulnerability in MOVEIt a widely used file transfer platform Chevron Federal Credit Union utilizes to store and share large files. The union launched an investigation, finding no customer information was leaked. In July, CFCU re-opened the investigation, discovering that hackers gain unauthorized access to their systems between May 30-31.[3]
On August 23, Chevron Federal Credit Union notified the Attorney General of Maine about a vulnerability in MOVEIt that resulted in unauthorized access to name and financial information affecting over 90,000 customers.[3] This resulted in a class action lawsuit against Chevron Federal Credit Union on September 11, 2023 due to failing to protect the personal information of current and former customers cyberattack.[4] The lawsuit is still ongoing.
