Employees told serve raw chicken to customers
Around November, numerous screenshots and reports of customers getting sick appeared across social media of uncooked chicken from Salad and Go, eventually resulting in several managers and employees anonymously going onto CBS New in February. They reported first receiving a alert from corporate management office of a potential package containing raw chicken after a "guest" report and ordered to remove all chicken packages before 19 November, however they alleges they keep receiving under cooked chicken. Several employees contacted higher management about the issue, however the company dismissed the claims, with one replying,"Hi team! These are blood spots. Please remove the pieces and serve the remaining product. This is a quality issue rather and food safety", however, several emails sent to managers and chief executes outlined various food safety concerns surrounding its chicken, with one instance referring to it as "raw".[1][2]
Around November, health inspectors began investigating several stores after being aware of the concerns. In several emails and messages sent by district managers to store managers, they were given instructions on how to interact with health departments.
"Team, you may be visited by the health department today or tomorrow. There has been complaints about our chicken in surrounding cities. If a health department rep comes in, let them check our chicken, but do not mention that we have issues. If they show, let me know."
"Team, Just a reminder that if the health department shows up, we do not discuss any previous issues with chicken or talk about it at all. If they ask, we do not admit any issues. We simply say that we not experienced any issues. Less is more. Even if they give exact dates or numbers, we give the same information. The OPS Services and Food Safety Teams are working on talking points for this, but in the meantime, please make sure every SL knows how to handle this if the HD shows up. Thank you."
The company responded In a series of statement addressing the accusations.
"The chicken at Salad and Go is safe and poses no health risk. We meet all guidelines for healthy food service as mandated by the USDA. In late 2024, the quality of some chicken was not to our standards. We acted swiftly to make a positive change in our supply chain and feel confident in the food we are serving."[2]
"This is a text from a District Manager to a Store Manager, but this is not a directive from Salad and Go Corporate. In fact, we do not communicate company policies via text. We agree this text is concerning, but this is not a reflection of our protocols"[2]
