Developer Response
subnautica 2's first hotfix released yesterday (May 19) addresses (not really, more like saying they will address them) some of the concerns:
" Enabled analytics only after accepting Terms of Service
Reduced the amount of data being sent to backend services
"
And,
"
As a reminder: analytics for Subnautica 2 can be turned off at any time from the settings menu.
Adjustments to the Terms of Service and a FAQ addressing concerns with the current version will be rolled out in the near future. "

Notability
This "incident" has been blown way out of proportion. Yes, the wording/phrasing leaves plenty to be desired, but there is nothing new that this hullabaloo brings to the table. Dyvorn over on the Steam Community forum made a very nice rebuttal on 14 May 2026: Someone wrote a 50 page thesis about the EULA after 0.6 hours. I destroy it with facts — Sojourna (talk) 06:06, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
