The Pro Click and Pro Click Mini are wireless optical computer mice offered by Razer[1]. They come with a 2.4 GHz RF USB dongle and Bluetooth pairing capability. Three different Bluetooth profiles can be quickly cycled through with the click of a button to change between devices. A slider allows for quick changes between BT, OFF and 2.4 GHz RF mode. The Razer Synapse software allows for full control over the mapping and the events triggered by clicking the different mouse keys. The Pro Click Mini takes two AA batteries and the non-mini version has a built in rechargable battery. They seem to have been released in 2020[2] and 2021[3]. While the Pro Click is not longer listed on Razers own store page as of April 2025, the Pro Click Mini still is[4]. Both models are regularly available on many different online shops like Amazon.com. The Pro Click Mini can be fully disassembled down to the main PCB, scroll wheel, upper case with battery holder and the structural parts of the case with a T6 Torx and a PH0 Phillips screwdriver. The Bluetooth chip is a nRF52840 QUIAAD0.[5]
Consumer impact summary
User account required to configure devices
One compelling selling point of Razer gear and the computer mouses is customization of the devices. This can be done through the Synapse software[6]. As of April 2025, there is no convenient way of using the Synapse software on Windows without having to create a user account and being connected to the internet[7]. There may have been ways to circumvent this in the past[8]. Version 3.5.1215.121019 (released in 2020) seems to work with limited functionality with a "Guest" account (no login), which still allows for a full configuration of the devices[9]. For Linux, there is an open source alternative for the software[10]. A Windows port of this Linux software exists, but as of April 2025 the files have not been updated for at least four years[11] (the port might still work regardless).
Bluetooth functionality breaks due to supposed firm ware error
It has been reported on many occasions, that the Bluetooth functionality of the Pro Click and Pro Click Mini devices can easily break during normal use.
The Bluetooth functionality is limited to three different actions by design: A slider enables Bluetooth, a button cycles through three different connection profiles and if not already connected, a channel goes directly into pairing mode. Channels are identified by colors (blue, green, yellow). Pairing mode is displayed by a blink-blink-pause pattern, connection mode by a single long on-time before the LED turns off[12].
Users of the devices have noticed, that once every channel has been paired to a device once, one can no longer enter pairing mode in any channel. The LED keeps blinking, but the device can not be seen by any other Bluetooth-capable device in range. The computer mice might not even connect to formerly paired devices anymore[13]. Pressing the button for three-five seconds or longer also does nothing. Since there are no hardware-reset buttons or similar measures built into the device, there is no physical way of resseting the connections. Some users have reported, that connecting to an Android or Linux device can teporarily "fix" this bug. However, this seems to require at least one of the three channels to be still free to connect. Some users supposedly had success in disconnecting and then completely removing their mice from the Bluetooth list of their Windows or Linux devices. Firmware updates have yet to address the bug. When all three Bluetooth channels are blocked by the bug, there is no way for the Synapse software to recognize the device anymore. It seems, the RF USB dongle does not offer extended connectivity and only transmits mouse movement and button presses. Without a possibility to connect to Razer update software[14], firmware updates for the mice are impossible to conduct (updating the RF USB dongle is still possible, but this will not fix the BT issue).
As of April 2025, there is no official statement by Razer regarding this issue. Customer requests are seemingly answered, but end with no solution to the bug other than replacement devices (which may break again soon after).
