The move impacts early LEAF and e-NV20 cars built before 2016, which is around 3,000 vehicles in the UK. Half are active users of the app, who can still use the main features using timers but not remotely.[1]

Nissan Leaf N-Connecta Payments
Faults Occurring After 3 years
Various services delivered through NissanConnect EV & Services after three years will be disabled, and customer service will begin contacting users by phone offering to re-enable them for you.[citation needed] Features which develop faults after three years include:
- remote door locking/alarm
- remote viewing of charging status
- remote climate control
- viewing vehicle location
- route planning (planning routes remains possible, but the maps will no longer receive updates and will not receive traffic updates).
These all require a monthly payment after the first three years. After this period, only basic functions remain until the payments are completed.[citation needed]

Safety issues with the NissanConnect EV app
Researchers at Black Hat Asia 2025 have found issues within the NissanConnectEV app, since it relied upon a Vehicle Identification Number to communicate with the user and to authenticate communications, and this number proved to be easy to reverse engineer. This allowed hackers to easily access the app.[3][4][5][6]
