Article sourcing

Hi @SoullessScythe,

The reason the incomplete notice has been placed on the article, is that we have the general policy that factual informatin about a company, its products, or its policies, must be sourced from an external source in order to appear on the wiki. The reason for this is that our central mission is to have this wiki be a credible and reasonably reliable source of information about specific anti-consumer practices. This means that a reader must be able to verify that what they are reading is eflective of the truth (or at least the general consesnsus of reporting on an issue), and should not have to accept on pure trust that a random contributor has submitted accurate information.

For your article, I'll address it in two halves: the consumer rights issue, and the fix.

Regarding the central consumer rights issue, it is something which could certainly fit the wiki if properly sourced (a company linking unneccesary privacy-disrespecting software to the purchase and use of a device would be in-scope), but we cannot host user speculation on the wiki unless we want it to descend into chaos. as a mod team we do not have the resources or ability to independantly verify technical information submitted by users, and as such we cannot accept text where a user speculates that a company has done something, or on the purposes of a particular action by a company, without the appropriate sourcing. So unless the issue gets picked up by any relevant elements of the tech press/any relevant youtubers, it's probably not something which can be hosted on the wiki.

In the case of the fix offered in your submission, I think its something which could only exist on the wiki if it was tied as a user guide to a properly sourced article. As it seems unlikely that the central issue fo the article has the appropriate external sourcing to exist on the wiki, the best place (to my knowledge) for you to post the fix would be repair.wiki, which is a site specifically created and maintained for the purpose of uploading information about the repair of specific devices. I am not personally associated with repair.wiki so could not tell you with certainty whether it fits what they're looking for, but I think there's a decent chance it does.

With regards to Discord, we understand your concern and do aim to set up a space for resolving article notices, however we have been using it for the moment as it is both easy to use, and widely adopted. In the meantime it's perfectly fine to @ a moderator such as myself in the talk page of an article, or message us on our talk pages, if you have a question or want to resolve an issue about an article. We'll also add text to this effect to the article notices.
