BlueCruise hands-free driving
Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free driving assist feature that is a more advanced cruise control. It uses a camera array mounted behind the steering wheel to ensure the driver is alert and paying attention to the road. While engaged, the driver is able to keep their hands off the steering wheel and feet off the pedals as the vehicle will keep itself centered in lane and adaptively follows other vehicles while driving down select highways and interstates. This feature is available on select vehicles and trim levels and requires a subscription to use.
Background
BlueCruise was first launched with the release of the 2021 Ford F-150. The system launched as a subscription, costing consumers 75 dollars a month to continue using a program which came factory installed in every 2021 Ford F-150.
Consumer Backlash
Ford faced criticism from consumers. [1]
Ford's response
Ford lowered the subscription price of the BlueCruise service to 49.99 a month or 450.00 a year. Additionally, Ford added the option to purchase the system as a one-time fee.[2]
