Forced Log-In on mobile app, Nagging pop-up to download App in Browser

Hey, I'm new to the wiki and am considering adding a section to this page about how Reddit is now forcing users to log in on the mobile app, but it seems to be inconsistent among users that have posted online. I wonder if it requires a login after a period of time after being installed, since people have been posting about it for years but it only happened to me this year.

Additionally in the past few days the Reddit site in a browser has been nagging 'some' people to download the app, though I couldn't recreate this myself. Dinkle41 (talk) 15:06, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

I think, regardless, there needs to be some kind of reputable source (a tech magazine who've looked into it, or something like that) before it can be added to the article. If a source corroborated those findings though, it could 100% be something that gets added to the Reddit article. Keith (talk) 23:49, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

Market Competition

Are Imgur, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram really competing with Reddit? I'd say that reddit is different enough as a social media platform (with subreddits and splitting topics into different communities) that it should be noted as not a direct competitor to these platforms. My hope is that someone could see that and be inspired to make a reddit-like network that has more freedom as a platform. Also, I think would be a lot easier for people to move from reddit to some other reddit-like platform than it was for people to move from X to Bluesky/Threads/whatever else because theres less of a need to move a followerbase like there was on X, so theres some motivation to do it, i just think it needs to be known that its possible.
