Removal of product features in Ver 2.2 firmware (2025/01/23)

In the latest release of firmware for the Lumix S5IIX, Panasonic restricted and or removed the following features (region dependant) citing "security enhancements"[3][4]:

<blockquote>

8. Feature changes due to security enhancements

- When directly connecting the camera and smartphone via Wi-Fi, the connection has been changed to always require password authentication. (The [Wi-Fi Password] menu has been removed.)

- The [TKIP] encryption method is no longer supported when connecting to Wi-Fi via an access point.

- The [No Encryption] option in network authentication is no longer supported when connecting to Wi-Fi via an access point.

- Wired LAN streaming feature (RTP/RTSP) has been removed.

- The image transfer feature to PC via Wi-Fi has been removed. (Only European models)

- The streaming feature via RTMP has been removed. (Only European models)

</blockquote>

At the time of writing (2025/04/19) there has been no statement from Panasonic explaining what security concerns prompted removal of RTP/RTSP over wired LAN (all models), and RTMP streaming, including image transfer over wifi for European models of the S5IIX. There appears to be no plans to re-introduce above features in future firmware updates.

Owners of the S5IIX who have updated to Ver 2.2 without knowing of the feature removals, who wish to continue to use the product features they paid for cannot do so as like many companies, Panasonic prevents firmware downgrades in the Lumix line of cameras in an attempt to prevent security regressions in their product's software, at this time their are no known workarounds once a camera has been upgraded to Ver 2.2 and beyond.

As of writing (2025/04/19) Panasonic Still advertises "Wired IP streaming" on both their American and Canadian web-stores[5][6], likely leading to customer confusion/frustration should the product be purchased with the expectation of being able to stream video over a wired LAN connection
