Richard Stallman is an american programmer and founder of the Free Software Foundation. He is known for promoting free software.

Works at MIT

He worked at MIT from 1971 to 1984. While at MIT, he wrote the Emacs editor. He left MIT over his concerns about the copyright of the software he was developing for them

Open letter to remove from all leadership positions

in 2021-03-23, an open letter signed by many prominent figures and organizations in the free software scene was published, accusing Stallman that: "He has shown himself to be misogynist, ableist, and transphobic, among other serious accusations of impropriety."

The Free Software Foundation is a foundation Stallman created to support the GNU project, and later the GNU/Linux operating system. This later resulted in the creation of the Copyleft system.
