I'm a self-trained music producer and tech enthusiast who's looking to make the most out of the gear already owned.
As a music producer I find it important for any audio enthusiasts to be informed about audio companies which have done harm to consumers. Avid Technology is one of those companies. The products that Avid makes are fantastic. As a company, they need to do better, but oh well, private equity always gets around. There are so many audio conglomerate or private holding groups out there. Here's a list of as many as I could find:
- Symphony Technology Group (STG) (US Private Equity) - Owns Avid Technology.
- Muse Group (Limited Company, but Francisco Partners invested) - Owns Ultimate Guitar, MuseScore, Audacity, StaffPad, and music catalog Hal Leonard and subsidiaries.
- Audiotonix Group (UK Private Holding) - Owns Allen & Heath, Calrec, DiGiCo + DiGiGrid, Fourier Audio, Group One Ltd, KLANG:technologies, Slate Digital (formerly Steven Slate Digital), Solid State Logic, sonible, Sound Devices, DPA Microphones, Wisycom, Austrian Audio.
- Music Tribe [Uses archive link due to possible brand renaming and original website offline] (Philippine Private Holding) - Owns Behringer, Midas, Klark Teknik, Aston Microphones, TC-Electronics, TC-Helicon & more.
- Yamaha Corporation (Japanese Public Corp) - Owns Yamaha Audio, Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, Ampeg, Bosendorf GmbH, Line 6
- Servco Pacific Inc. (US Private Comp) - Owns majority stake in Fender, which acts as a master holder for Fender, Gretsch, Jackson Guitars, PreSonus, and Squier products, among others. Has invested significant amount of money in the Roland Corporation.
- Roland Corporation (Japanese Public Corp) - Owns Roland, Boss, v-moda, and DW (Drum Workshop) Drums.
- InMusic Brands (US Private Holding) - Owns Native Instruments, Brainworx, Izotope, Plugin-Alliance, Akai Professional, Alesis, Alto Professional, M-Audio, Moog Music, Sonivox (now absorbed with other InMusic products), Denon Professional + DJ, and more.
- Harman International Industries (Subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, a Japanese Public Corp) - Owns AKG, AMX, Crown, JBL, Lexicon, dbx, Soundcraft, and more.
Yeah. Pretty soon all of these companies will be under one mega-conglomerate of music and pro audio industries. That would be a fun time (Sarcastic).
