Oculus (Meta) Quest 1 Deprecation

Meta (formerly Oculus) recently prevented developers from providing updates to programs for Quest 1 through their store in addition to previous restrictions. [1]

Background[edit | edit source]

Oculus Quest 1 was introduced on May 21st 2019 and received 50 operating system versions. It entered extended support on January 31st 2023 with this notice[2] which was followed by this archived support page[3] from February 22nd 2023 which states that it will no longer receive new version updates but will continue to receive security updates until 2024. The current version of this notice as of writing states that critical bug fixes and security patches were provided until August 2024.[4]

[Developers blocked from supporting Quest 1 in new apps listed on Meta Horizon store][edit | edit source]

On January 31st 2023 Meta announced that developers are no longer able to support Quest 1 in new apps listed on the Meta Horizon store effective immediately.[2]

[Users no longer able to use Meta Horizon Home social features][edit | edit source]

Effective March 5th 2023 "Quest 1 users won't be able to invite others to their Home, visit someone else's Home, create or join a Party."[2]

[Developers blocked from providing software updates to Quest 1 apps hosted on Meta Horizon store][edit | edit source]

On January 31st 2025 Meta announced that developers are no longer able to support Quest 1 with app updates on Meta Horizon store. This change will be in effect from May 2nd 2025 onward. [1]
