Introducing Ads and Bloatware to its lower end phones
[edit | edit source]Nothing OS 4.0 (based on android 16) added Lock Glimpses/Ads and Pre-installed Apps (Bloatware) on their lower end phones, like the Phone 3a series which includes Phone (3a) Lite, (3a), the (3a) Pro and CMF Phones.[2][3] This move is being heavily criticized by consumers as they previously claimed to provide a bloat-free experience on their devices.
The introduction of Essential Search does not permit the users to perform local searches on the device without forcing them to Terms and Conditions and a Privacy policy.
Following this update the company also refuses to provide with a simple alternative for the user to downgrade the device to a previous working state, without the user paying for the repair even under warranty.
Bluetooth doesn't work
[edit | edit source]- Main article: Nothing Phone (1)
Several users have reported a recurring issue with the Nothing Phone (1) where the Bluetooth functionality becomes inoperable. Affected devices are unable to activate Bluetooth, with the toggle permanently greyed out or failing to switch on. This malfunction has been described as rendering the feature "completely broken," making it impossible to pair headphones, speakers, or other accessories.[4][5]
Products
[edit | edit source]- Phone (3) (July 1st, 2025[6]): Nothing advertized it's product as a 'Flagship' to hype the product up. The product originally came with a built-in app called 'Nothing Chats', Which was advertized as end-to-end encrypted, Although it is not.[7] The change has since been reverted it seems in newer software releases. Additionally the phone has an 'Essential Space' button which triggers the built-in AI app, the button cannot be disabled on the device itself, and instead requires a computer with ADB to disable or customise[8]. This is not reasonably accessible to the average person.
