== 'Impact summary > Freedom/ Privacy' is misleading ==
- ''"DuckDuckGo had removed/de-ranked certain content, raising concerns about the extent of its unrestricted search results."''
This wording makes it sound as if this was done deliberately by DuckDuckGo. Prefixing it with "It appeared as though..." would perhaps be better. The DDG CEO cited in the article referenced denies removing any sites from search results on purpose, and the issue would have arisen due to a technical issue with the "site:" search modifier.
- "''DuckDuckGo browser had specifically allowed Microsoft trackers to continue running, at the expense of user privacy."''
This statement is misleading. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31490515 and https://duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/company/ads-by-microsoft-on-duckduckgo-private-search clarify that only after you click a Microsoft-Ads ad on the DDG search page or other websites, through their DDG '''apps,''' then your IP address & user agent string will be disclosed to Microsoft Ads. For DDG this is a contractual necessary evil to be allowed to source Bing results, and it really is the bare minimum (no profile building, search history etc) [[User:Webketje|Webketje]] ([[User talk:Webketje|talk]]) 18:38, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
