Moved this into the CAT category so it isn't eaten by special pages as requested; looks like it may have already been in the root namespace but just for clarity sake until we build a full on mainpage. ==Anonymization of non-logged in user IPs==
When browsing without an account "Random Page" is hidden behind a menu. Is there a way to plop it right next to "search" or in the middle of the home page to better facilitate visitors? (or maybe a browse button? Or a "New here? Read about consumer rights here!" where it gives a quick into and recommends a good page to start browsing).

I would like to request that users who make edits without user accounts do not have their full IP published in the edit log.

::Greetings, I made the suggestion to the team on your behalf. At the momment, there is no plan or intention to anonymize IPs for non-logged in users. It helps with accountability as knowing the IP will be visible deterring bad behavior. It also makes moderation easier. My interest in this woke up when editing this article, and following the Wikipedia page to cite from a patent, when previewing the article the reference wasn't rendered properly. I don't know if I screwed up something or really the site doesn't support yet the use of this format. I moved the page Milwaukee battery DRM because "DRM" was lowercase previously. On the "create account" page, near the bottom, it says, "We have recently updated our privacy policy."  How recently?  It doesn't say.  The logical assumption which must be made is that it has changed seconds ago, and must be reread.  How about instead displaying something along the lines of, "Our privacy policy was last updated on <date>", even if there does not exist a way to automate the display of the date, and the "create account" page (or the page of any other such notice) must be edited by hand?
Seeking Help to Reconfigure Bluetooth Settings on a Medical Prosthetic Knee
:this is valid, and we'll try and get it fixed shortly Keith (talk) 08:29, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
Hi everyone,
Dependence on phone app for basic functions, make an article?
I'm on Frontier internet, only gig around and I think they know it. We got fiber a few years ago and if you want wi-fi you either go with the Amazon Eeros(?) or learn how to do your own router. The Eeros seems that you can only access settings with a phone app, no desktop. Would this qualify it for an article on here? I've also heard about sleezy back door things happening either from Amazon or the IP itself, that they can access settings the customer cannot. Anyhow I don't want to just go ahead and write some poorly put together article and it shouldn't even be on here. Sawbones (talk) 17:57, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I’m a transfemoral amputee using a second-hand Bluetooth-enabled prosthetic knee. The knee itself is fully functional, but it’s an older, discontinued model, and that’s where the problem starts.

:This probably depends on the level of coverage. have there been any news articles (local or otherwise) which are complaining about this? Forcing the customer to use unneccesarily invasive software to access a service is something which definitely fits within the wiki's scope, and anything which is happening across a whole ISP would be large-scale enough, but the final thing an article needs is good sources Keith (talk) 08:27, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
The manufacturer’s configuration software is now obsolete and no longer supported, so my prosthetist cannot reconfigure the knee using official tools anymore. I do have legitimate access:
• The device is mine
• I can successfully connect to it via Bluetooth
• I have the pairing key and can use the mobile app
However, the mobile app only exposes very limited settings, and I need access to deeper / advanced configuration parameters that directly affect my gait, stability, and overall mobility. These settings clearly exist (they were adjustable when the device was still supported), but they’re now locked behind software that no longer runs.

Cruzaders kings 2 incident.
What I’m trying to understand is whether it’s possible to:
• Inspect or understand the Bluetooth communication used by the original software/app
• Identify the relevant commands, characteristics, or protocol used to configure the knee
• Modify or send specific configuration values using modern tools, without relying on the deprecated software
This is not about bypassing security or hacking a device I don’t own — it’s a medical device that I depend on daily, and I’m simply trying to regain access to functionality that the hardware is already capable of, but software obsolescence has taken away.

Hi everyone, as a fan of Paradox games and somebody that really wants to write in this wiki i wanted to ask something... what right exactly the paradox incident covers? i want to do it, but i dont understand quite exactly what i should do at writting it, why its an anti ownership or anti consumer practice, i need to understand that first to start it, because if i dont recognize well the systematic issue i think that i cannot treat it. Predatitor41 (talk) 01:26, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
I’m open to learning and doing this properly, and I understand this may involve BLE analysis, protocol reverse-engineering, or embedded/Bluetooth tooling. Even high-level guidance on where to start (tools, workflows, or similar experiences) would be incredibly helpful.

:I think I see the one you mean on the article suggestions. I'm honeslt not sure why it should be there either, it doesn't seem to fit. They sell a lot of DLC and it's quite expensive, but there's nothing particularly deceptive going on there from what I can tell. • Bluetooth or BLE reverse engineering
:::I removed it for reasons stated previously - it (at least the way it was phrased in the entry) did not seem like something which would fit on the wiki Keith (talk) 14:48, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
• GATT analysis, packet sniffing, or custom Bluetooth protocols
or is willing to help guide me through this, I’d be deeply grateful. This isn’t just a technical curiosity — it’s about maintaining my independence and quality of life.

Replace PrivacyTools.io with PrivacyGuides
Thank you so much for reading. Daniel2299 (talk) 23:54, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

As per PrivacyGuides FAQ page https://www.privacyguides.org/en/about/privacytools/
Add diagrams
"In September 2021, every active contributor unanimously agreed to move from PrivacyTools to work on this site: Privacy Guides. This decision was made because PrivacyTools’ founder and controller of the domain name had disappeared for an extended period of time and could not be contacted.
I know this is likely already covered under some other site or maybe it is here and I missed it.

Having built a reputable site and set of services on PrivacyTools.io, this caused grave concerns for the future of PrivacyTools, as any future disruption could wipe out the entire organization with no recovery method. This transition was communicated to the PrivacyTools community many months in advance via a variety of channels including its blog, Twitter, Reddit, and Mastodon to ensure the entire process went as smoothly as possible. We did this to ensure nobody was kept in the dark, which has been our modus operandi since our team was created, and to make sure Privacy Guides was recognized as the same reliable organization that PrivacyTools was before the transition.
Would it be possible to have a section for an archive of wiring diagramsand maybe user manuals? I havee no ideas how it could be archived ie by year the product was made, or company, or company product subproduct.

After the organizational move was completed, the founder of PrivacyTools returned and began to spread misinformation about the Privacy Guides project. They continue to spread misinformation in addition to operating a paid link farm on the PrivacyTools domain. We are creating this page to clear up any misconceptions."
I worry that may bring unwanted attention from companies trying to keep their diagrams proprietary. That or this will be the location of the next top secret leak.

The current PrivacyTools.io site has obvious but undisclosed sponsored promotions of Nord Security products (NordVPN, Surfshark, Incogni) and maybe others as well. The events that transpired that led to the forming of PrivacyGuides are verifiable through searching community posts at the time and other sources. For those that remember the "leading" members of PrivacyTools at the time (Jonah Aragon, Daniel Gray, Niek-de-Wilde, freddy...), all of them were the ones who made PrivacyGuides and moved along with the whole community. Their forum and other channels are filled with community discussion and all recommendation additions and removals are debated in public as was the case with PrivacyTools in the past. Meanwhile today PrivacyTools.io doesn't even have an "About" page or anything, and while there is a Github page linked on the site, there doesn't seem to be a way to actually contribute (https://github.com/privacytoolsIO/privacy-tools/discussions/18).
I could also see this being a data sink that is rarely used.

Addition of NOYB.eu to the Consumer Tools section
What happened to the main page
The case is a denied warranty for one of our customers that I'm sure has to be a common issue with this design.
why does the main page look like this https://ibb.co/21XSXgWC https://ibb.co/MkDgJrf1 ? Did I do something, how do I fix it? Andrew V (talk) 17:54, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

I plan to research online but It would be faster to have people who have direct access to the information, We were and still are a warranty center for them but one of champion's employees insulted us and our competence on the case I'm referring to, and we haven't gotten any contact from champion since so not really in the situation to reach out for information that they'd most likely deny or ignore us on.
:Don't worry - Jake's just playing around with the templates and formatting to try and make it look a bit nicer! should settle down shortly Keith (talk) 18:05, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

If anyone on here is an employee in their parts department, or a similar department with access to publicly known part numbers and specs please reach out, the small engine industry is a problem lately that's only getting worse. It would be nice to document issues that arise It would also be nice to have someone with engineering experience and credentials to verify data and calculate it themselves, especially in the gas powered equipment sector/industry The Wang (talk) 20:20, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
An incorrect link and more
Will this wiki publish regular backups?
The Clippy Daily Dot article link is incorrect in the "In the News" template being transcluded to the Main Page
:the link is    https://www.dailydot.com/culture/youtube-clippy-pfx/
:but should be  https://dailydot.com/youtube-clippy-pfp
The correct link says "pfp" (profile picture) and the incorrect link says "pfx" for some reason.

The Wikimedia Foundation regularly publishes compressed archives of its wikis. This sets an example I wish every website with text-based user-generated contributions would follow. It is important to preserve the contribution history should this site go offline. Besides, text is well compressable.

Many websites in the past have shut down with little to no warning, resulting in the loss of years of volunteer contributions. We need to pre-empt this.
It was a pain to find the transcluded template with the error:
Since this other similar page is linked from the template:
It's atypical of MediaWiki based projects to not directly link to the view template page from the template itself. And maybe the page similarity issue should be solved with a merge?

<blockquote>
Issue: No Backup, No Distribution
For reasons and examples stated in this article, any centralized web-based service will go offline some day. Some sooner, some later. Popularity is not even a guarantee that a service gets continued
</blockquote>

Lastly, and most significantly, the historical view of the Main Page at the time of the edit that added the template in question (6 July 2025)
includes the Daily Dot Clippy story (12 August 2025) which wasn't available at the time of the edit, demonstrating that the transclusion was refreshed even for the older revisions of the Main Page. The older "renderings" of the page shouldn't have been modified with updated transclusions not just for preservation purposes, but also because it would waste a bunch of the server time dealing with extra stuff in the MediaWiki Job Queue.

Identify Consumer Tools with Anti-Consumer Concessions?
I specifically bring this up because of the recommendation of Trim, the OneMain version of Rocket Money. When clicking the link, I'd initially expected it would be some financial tool with crowd-sourced identifiers for various subscription services that you could drop your statements into to identify unintentional spending. On actually reading the Privacy Policy, however, it's very much the same case as any other major finance app where they're sharing your every identifier to advertisers and retaining your personal information for up to 12 months.

I'm not saying this is inherently wrong or that such practices should immediately disqualify it from being listed on the site, but I do think it would be in the spirit of the wiki to add some kind of identifier for tools/services which are run by entities prone to anti-consumer practices, just to help someone who might assume that any tool recommended by users of the wiki would also abide by the apparent values of the wiki, without them actually verifying that such is the case. I think something similar to the adjacent tool's [requires subscription] label would suffice. Maybe even just an asterisk with a line at the bottom of the box clarifying that while this tool is useful, it comes with one or more anti-consumer concessions.

I think the ultimate "fix" for this is to create individual pages for each tool, or category of tool, or one long "Consumer Tools" page with fleshed out details on each item, but that's a much more involved project than what I think would be sufficient for right now(TM).

That said, I can also see the argument that one should be privy to the privacy policy and ToS with any product, so perhaps that behavior is assumed and this isn't considered to be within the scope of the wiki. That, along with determining the specifics if something were to be implemented to address my concern, is why I thought it would make sense to put this in the Talk page. Seeking Help to Reconfigure Bluetooth Settings on a Medical Prosthetic Knee

[edit source]

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I’m a transfemoral amputee using a second-hand Bluetooth-enabled prosthetic knee. The knee itself is fully functional, but it’s an older, discontinued model, and that’s where the problem starts.

The manufacturer’s configuration software is now obsolete and no longer supported, so my prosthetist cannot reconfigure the knee using official tools anymore. I do have legitimate access:

What I’m trying to understand is whether it’s possible to:

•	Inspect or understand the Bluetooth communication used by the original software/app

•	Identify the relevant commands, characteristics, or protocol used to configure the knee

•	Modify or send specific configuration values using modern tools, without relying on the deprecated software

This is not about bypassing security or hacking a device I don’t own — it’s a medical device that I depend on daily, and I’m simply trying to regain access to functionality that the hardware is already capable of, but software obsolescence has taken away.

I’m open to learning and doing this properly, and I understand this may involve BLE analysis, protocol reverse-engineering, or embedded/Bluetooth tooling. Even high-level guidance on where to start (tools, workflows, or similar experiences) would be incredibly helpful.

If anyone has experience with:

•	Bluetooth or BLE reverse engineering

•	GATT analysis, packet sniffing, or custom Bluetooth protocols

or is willing to help guide me through this, I’d be deeply grateful. This isn’t just a technical curiosity — it’s about maintaining my independence and quality of life.

I know a some of the manuals/ diagrams are hidden behind a pay wall or almost impossible to find and having one location that is not going to charge a subscription later would be great. 72.22.224.50 19:57, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

JFK Consumer Bill of Rights

[edit source]

I'd like to suggest that CR-Wiki identify the best location on the Site to commemorate Jack Kennedy's 1962 Consumer Bill of Rights, which, although never specifically codified into US national Consumer Rights law, has nevertheless served as a model for many related Consumer movements and laws. What happened to the main page

[edit source]

why does the main page look like this https://ibb.co/21XSXgWC https://ibb.co/MkDgJrf1 ? Did I do something, how do I fix it? Andrew V (talk) 17:54, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry - Jake's just playing around with the templates and formatting to try and make it look a bit nicer! should settle down shortly Keith (talk) 18:05, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Clippy Daily Dot article link is incorrect in the "In the News" template being transcluded to the Main Page

the link is https://www.dailydot.com/culture/youtube-clippy-pfx/
but should be https://dailydot.com/youtube-clippy-pfp

The correct link says "pfp" (profile picture) and the incorrect link says "pfx" for some reason.

It was a pain to find the transcluded template with the error:

https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Template:Main_Page/In_The_News

Since this other similar page is linked from the template:

https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Consumer_Rights_Wiki:In_the_news

It's atypical of MediaWiki based projects to not directly link to the view template page from the template itself. And maybe the page similarity issue should be solved with a merge?

Lastly, and most significantly, the historical view of the Main Page at the time of the edit that added the template in question (6 July 2025)

https://consumerrights.wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page&diff=prev&oldid=16466

includes the Daily Dot Clippy story (12 August 2025) which wasn't available at the time of the edit, demonstrating that the transclusion was refreshed even for the older revisions of the Main Page. The older "renderings" of the page shouldn't have been modified with updated transclusions not just for preservation purposes, but also because it would waste a bunch of the server time dealing with extra stuff in the MediaWiki Job Queue.

I am not sure how hard those other things are to fix but there you go. 209.44.198.25 09:48, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for not seeing this earlier and thanks a lot for this! I've done the first as it's very easy, but @JakeL could do the second one as I'm not sure how to fix it. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 09:36, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Identify Consumer Tools with Anti-Consumer Concessions?

[edit source]
