On May 20, 2026, Amazon will be cutting off Kindles made before 2012 from their online servers, making it impossible to download, purchase, or borrow books. Additionally, if the device needs to be reset, due to it being impossible to register with Amazon servers, it will be bricked and may never function again. (Note: this might be fixable via jailbreak?) This is likely due to them wanting to completely lock down the Kindle bookstore, making it completely impossible to own what you bought and paid for on the Kindle store.
