Please add cautions to discord link
Hey what happened to my account?
Given the topic of this wiki, it surprises me that getting help seems to be gated behind discord.
I am currently using "Edit Source" as a way to communicate, but I am not sure what happened. What happened to "Edit" what happened to me not able to reply? What did I do?

I think it would make sense to have the link on the home page (which currently goes to discord) go to a page that explains the discord situation, points out the downsides of discord (including a link to the wiki’s coverage of discord), and then lists the discord link, as well as a link to wherever on the wiki one can get help if decide not to discord.
:@Jerry468 This happens in discussions, for some reason there is no 'edit' button in discussion pages, instead use the 'reply' button next to discussions or the 'Add Topic' button on the top right. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 15:31, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

For discord you have to read 29 pages of TOS, 19 pages of privacy policy; agree to their data harvesting, give up 7th amendment rights (forced arbitration), no class action, etc. Then create an account, including surrendering your birth date. Then figure out how to use yet another interface. Evidently in some places you also have to send them a picture of you with some id (yours if you trust them, fake if you don't).
"Random Page" should be front and center :)
Pretty ironic for this wiki advocating consumers rights to gate things behind some company with a less than stellar consumer rights stance. I figure that wondering about discord is a frequently asked question, and there is probably a standard response/explanation, but I can not find anything about this on the wiki. Where is the coverage of this?
When browsing without an account "Random Page" is hidden behind a menu. Is there a way to plop it right next to "search" or in the middle of the home page to better facilitate visitors? (or maybe a browse button? Or a "New here? Read about consumer rights here!" where it gives a quick into and recommends a good page to start browsing).

If such an explanation does not exist, please help create one. Some of the things I think it well to address:
Its just a little overwhelming to be a visitor curious about consumer rights and not having a clear place to start. Mallveo (talk) 21:39, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
*Why discord?
*Is anything being done to move to a more consumer friendly platform? (e.g., What other platforms are being considered? What platforms rejected? What are desiderata? What is anticipated time frame?)
*Is there a project to mirror the public parts of the discord to the wiki, or to a web page? (I haven’t found a tool to do this. If I were doing it, I would try starting with something like DiscordChatExporter. [not an endorsement, I haven’t tried it]) A discord client for wiki (i.e., lets wiki users post on the discord) would be even better. (However, with the direction discord company is going, this is probably not worth the effort.)

Any other questions such an explanation should answer?

Where to ask questions on the wiki?
Top articles correction
Where should users ask questions if they don't do discord? e.g., Questions about how to use wiki? Questions about policy? And most important, questions they can't figure out where to ask?
I moved the page Milwaukee battery DRM because "DRM" was lowercase previously. The main page still uses the formatting from the redirect that the page move left behind, even after purging the cache, so it must be manually updated. More importantly, the link for Digital rights management is dead; I'm going to add a redirect, but I'm leaving this here as a heads up. Bythmusters (talk) 18:05, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

I have looked around, even read through the staff directory, but can't figure out who/where to ask.

Seeking Help to Reconfigure Bluetooth Settings on a Medical Prosthetic Knee
:Not a mod (you’ve probably seen me say that by now) but I’d go to CRW Team which shows members, click on one of the blue wiki links and ask for advice on a mods talk page. They usually get back within a day or so. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 20:01, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Hi everyone,
::Basically this^
::It might be best to ping specific moderators since not many of them are frequently on or are aware of all the Talk pages. And still, the noticeboard is the best bet for all questions, especially if you don't have one specific mod in mind. You can also ping someone there too. ==Add a main page list of major notorious companies==
I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I’m a transfemoral amputee using a second-hand Bluetooth-enabled prosthetic knee. The knee itself is fully functional, but it’s an older, discontinued model, and that’s where the problem starts.

Please add to the main page a list/section of major companies known to have violated consumer rights, with direct links to each company’s article (e.g., Alphabet (Google), Microsoft). This would make it easier for average users to find out about it. EBones (talk) 09:19, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
The manufacturer’s configuration software is now obsolete and no longer supported, so my prosthetist cannot reconfigure the knee using official tools anymore. I do have legitimate access:
• The device is mine
• I can successfully connect to it via Bluetooth
• I have the pairing key and can use the mobile app
However, the mobile app only exposes very limited settings, and I need access to deeper / advanced configuration parameters that directly affect my gait, stability, and overall mobility. These settings clearly exist (they were adjustable when the device was still supported), but they’re now locked behind software that no longer runs.

:Hello, and welcome! I agree that additional navigation pages could help make this wiki more accessible. However, I wonder how one could define such a list in a way that would keep it manageableIt could easily become an ever-expanding thing, or, if limited to a set number of entries, how would you focus it so that there wasn't constant back-and-forth about who should be on it? (Just my thought on how to improve the suggestion, if you want to pursue it.)
What I’m trying to understand is whether it’s possible to:
:I have no idea whether such a thing would fly with the moderators here. Drakeula (talk) 05:37, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
• Inspect or understand the Bluetooth communication used by the original software/app
• Identify the relevant commands, characteristics, or protocol used to configure the knee
  • Modify or send specific configuration values using modern tools, without relying on the deprecated software
This is not about bypassing security or hacking a device I don’t own — it’s a medical device that I depend on daily, and I’m simply trying to regain access to functionality that the hardware is already capable of, but software obsolescence has taken away.

I’m open to learning and doing this properly, and I understand this may involve BLE analysis, protocol reverse-engineering, or embedded/Bluetooth tooling. Even high-level guidance on where to start (tools, workflows, or similar experiences) would be incredibly helpful.

If anyone has experience with:
• Bluetooth or BLE reverse engineering
• GATT analysis, packet sniffing, or custom Bluetooth protocols
or is willing to help guide me through this, I’d be deeply grateful. This isn’t just a technical curiosity — it’s about maintaining my independence and quality of life.

An incorrect link and more
The Clippy Daily Dot article link is incorrect in the "In the News" template being transcluded to the Main Page
:the link is https://www.dailydot.com/culture/youtube-clippy-pfx/
:but should be https://dailydot.com/youtube-clippy-pfp
The correct link says "pfp" (profile picture) and the incorrect link says "pfx" for some reason.

It was a pain to find the transcluded template with the error:
Since this other similar page is linked from the template:
It's atypical of MediaWiki based projects to not directly link to the view template page from the template itself. And maybe the page similarity issue should be solved with a merge?

Lastly, and most significantly, the historical view of the Main Page at the time of the edit that added the template in question (6 July 2025)
includes the Daily Dot Clippy story (12 August 2025) which wasn't available at the time of the edit, demonstrating that the transclusion was refreshed even for the older revisions of the Main Page. The older "renderings" of the page shouldn't have been modified with updated transclusions not just for preservation purposes, but also because it would waste a bunch of the server time dealing with extra stuff in the MediaWiki Job Queue.

Identify Consumer Tools with Anti-Consumer Concessions?
I specifically bring this up because of the recommendation of Trim, the OneMain version of Rocket Money. When clicking the link, I'd initially expected it would be some financial tool with crowd-sourced identifiers for various subscription services that you could drop your statements into to identify unintentional spending. On actually reading the Privacy Policy, however, it's very much the same case as any other major finance app where they're sharing your every identifier to advertisers and retaining your personal information for up to 12 months.

I'm not saying this is inherently wrong or that such practices should immediately disqualify it from being listed on the site, but I do think it would be in the spirit of the wiki to add some kind of identifier for tools/services which are run by entities prone to anti-consumer practices, just to help someone who might assume that any tool recommended by users of the wiki would also abide by the apparent values of the wiki, without them actually verifying that such is the case. I think something similar to the adjacent tool's [requires subscription] label would suffice. Maybe even just an asterisk with a line at the bottom of the box clarifying that while this tool is useful, it comes with one or more anti-consumer concessions.

I think the ultimate "fix" for this is to create individual pages for each tool, or category of tool, or one long "Consumer Tools" page with fleshed out details on each item, but that's a much more involved project than what I think would be sufficient for right now(TM).

That said, I can also see the argument that one should be privy to the privacy policy and ToS with any product, so perhaps that behavior is assumed and this isn't considered to be within the scope of the wiki. That, along with determining the specifics if something were to be implemented to address my concern, is why I thought it would make sense to put this in the Talk page. "Random Page" should be front and center :)
