Rocksmith was a line of video games created by Ubisoft, providing one of the few methods of learning guitar with a game-like experience of Guitar Hero, but it is on an actual guitar. The game provided downloadable content (DLC) that it sold as a one-time buy. The original Rocksmith released in 2011 was de-listed from every storefront on 17 October 2021, followed by the 2014 version on 23 October 2023. No reason was given for de-listing the original, while the latter was due to the expiration of licensing agreements.

The game was a natural fit for custom modding, which Ubisoft did not endorse.^{[citation needed]} Rather than continuing the original Rocksmith line, Ubisoft shifted to Rocksmith+, a revised version that features covers of previously licensed tracks, does not support DLC transfers, and runs on a costly, online-only subscription model. This new model essentially eliminates modding, stripping away user flexibility.
