The Economist is a newspaper that has serious issues with the ability to cancel subscriptions combined with frequent increases in subscription prices. They have broken web forms for cancellations. Cancellation can only be done by reaching out to support and being subjected to repeated offers for discounted subscriptions, a process that can take quite a long time.
Users that open the main webpage for The Economist, economist.com, are immediately stopped by a pop-up that says "We value your privacy" and "By continuing, you agree to our terms of use and our privacy policy. Manage your cookies." When clicking "Manage your cookies", users must opt out of The Economist selling and sharing user information to third party marketers. "You can ask us not to share your data with our partners by toggling ON below. Please note that even if you choose not to share your data, we may still share certain information with our trusted partners where it is essential to run our services." The Economist does not specify which kinds of information are "essential to run our services". [1]
