===Tether App===
The TP-Link Tether app is [[forced app download|required]] for some maintenance operation on consumer network devices like routers, access points, repeaters.
The devices most of the time allow a web configuration without associating to the app, however for some of these devices the firmware section of the support site is not provided, so the only way to update the device's firmware is registration, link to the device and use the app, or login to the device itself and use the integrated update procedure. Devices are actively locked-in to allow login only from the network subnet of the device.
For instance, at date of writing (October 23 2025) the most updated firwmare file for Archer C6 v4 is 1.15.0 Build 250729 Rel.63726n(4555), which cannot be found in any TP-Link support website. The most recent I found is version Archer C6(EU)_V4_1.14.30 Build 250729 found on the [https://web.archive.org/save/https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/archer-c6/v4/#Firmware global TP-Link support website]. If it's good for Tether app to deploy in produts, should be good for a standard http download.
