The Meraki MS390 is a high-end series of Layer 3 network switches manufactured by Cisco Meraki from 2019-2025. Unlike every other switch sold under the Meraki branding at the time, it was based on Catalyst hardware and software. There are many variants in the MS390 series, but all share the same platform and firmware. These switches share identical hardware and software based off of the Cisco Catalyst 9300 series of switches. The 9300 series was originally designed to be configured locally with a console port. The MS390 has a functional console port and runs a very similar firmware, but Cisco has locked all access to it via software blocks.
Consumer impact summary
[edit | edit source]
The following are some concerns regarding end-user rights for this series of switches:
- Cloud licensing is required to use product.
- Product will be non-functional after EOL date of Mar 28, 2032.[1]
- There is no official way to configure device locally using the console port or otherwise.
