UltiMaker Cloud/Digital Factory requirement for 3D printers

[edit | edit source]

UltiMaker's only way of networking the UltiMaker 2+ Connect (and possibly the UltiMaker 3) is through UltiMaker Cloud/Digital Factory. This means if UltiMaker Cloud goes down, the user cannot remotely manage their UltiMaker printers.[citation needed] UltiMaker's solution is that you "use a USB to print" however this is time-consuming as you have to wait up to ten minutes for the file to be transferred from the USB to the printer's internal SD card. It also makes using these printers in a school network much more difficult, where there is a firewall that could be blocking UltiMaker's services. There is no LAN control for these printers. Many members in the UltiMaker community forums have discussed their issues with Digital Factory, and a reply from a forum moderator is to "print using flash drives."[1]
