IKEA Home Smart
IKEA offers a line of Smart Home Devices under the Brand "Home Smart".
In May 2022 IKEA released a new Smart home hub announcing that it offers Matter integration.[1][2] But Matter was not yet implemented in the Hub. Instead it was delayed several times, missing advertised features. Finally in September 2024, 2 years after the release it was implemented.[3][4]
During that time it was not transparent to customers when/if Matter integration will be implemented. No apologies were made.
Furthermore, the "IKEA Home Smart" app is required to control the hub, and said app uses the Google Play Integrity API, which arbitrarily prevents the whole smart home system from functioning if the app is installed on any custom Android ROMs. Other than responding to negative reviews on the Play Store by blaming customers and making nonsensical claims about "security", IKEA does not admit any of this information publicly or otherwise warn potential buyers in any way of the requirement for a Google-approved OS.
Failures in FYRTUR roller blinds
A lot of users of FYRTUR roller blinds have Issues with them failing suddenly.[5][6][7]
IKEA has not acknowledged this issue openly.
Video recording in Austria
In Vienna, Austria, IKEA was fined for 1.5 million EUR for recording footage at the checkout counter, where both the customer's face, and their given payment PIN is visible, and kept for 72 hours on their branch at Westbahnhof.[8]
30 violations of data protection regulation were reported by investigators, of which 28 were confirmed in court.
