We live in a society where privacy is no longer an option. Back in 1990 when you get an internet service you know that you will not spied on by the ISP that you are paying your hard earning money. Now the ISP tells you in their Privacy Policy that they will be collecting data on the websites you visit.
Below is one of the main section I would like you to focus on.
Frontier Privacy Policy
We collect certain information when you use our products, services, and websites, as well as when you communicate with us.
Information You Provide to Us. We collect information you provide to us, such as your name and contact information, driver’s license number, Social Security Number, and payment information. We also may maintain research records containing information obtained through voluntary subscriber interviews or surveys.
Information Related to Your Use of Our Services. We also collect information about how you use our products and services. This information may include call records, the websites you visit, information about the devices you use in connection with our services, your bandwidth usage, and your TV and other video viewership, including movie rental and purchase data.
Information Collected When You Use Our Websites and Mobile Apps. We collect certain information when you visit a Frontier website or use a Frontier mobile app, including information about your operating system and browser, IP address and device identification numbers, and web addresses of the websites you come from and go to next.
When You Use the Frontier Android App. With your permission, we may access information from your device, such as your general location, contact lists, SMS messages, Call logs, photo and video library, documents, music. This information is only accessed if you grant us access to it, and if it’s required for the service to operate, or required for specific features of the service to operate. For example, we cannot backup or restore your content like contacts, SMS messages, photos and videos, documents, music on your behalf if you do not grant us the required permissions.
Why it is a problem
I don't want the ISP to decide what kind of person I am based on what movies I watch, rent, buy. What T.V show I watch on my smart TV.
I don't want the ISP to know my location, have access to my contact list, call logs, and especially access to my SMS messages when I use their app.
I also don't want the ISP to have access to my documents, music, photo and video library just my using their App. If they want to transfer a file to me then they can use the standard https download protocol just like other apps do by redirecting you to a browser download url. If I want to upload something then I can just share it via the share action and choose the App. The App does not need full access to my phone files.
At this point you have to accept their terms or you can't use their service.
What can we do
You are now forced to spend money to purchase VPN when watching any video or playing any music.
Do not use the App and use the website.
Use local LLM like LM Studio so the ISP don't know what you are searching, or use VPN.
