As of July 2026, Kayo Sports requires verification of location for streaming on all platforms (mobile apps, TV, browser). Platforms without native location support (e.g. TV operating systems) require verification via a mobile app with precise location enabled.

Background

In September 2025, Kayo Sports began requiring precise location to be provided in the iOS and Android apps in order to stream content.[1] The Kayo Sports web player was not initially affected by this change.[1][2]

Expansion to all platforms

In July 2026, verification of location became required to stream on any platform, including TV operating systems (e.g. Apple TV) and the web player.

Upon first launch of the Apple TV app, the user is presented with a QR code which launches the Kayo Sports mobile app (iOS/Android). The mobile app must have been granted location access in order to allow streaming (precise location required on iOS).

Consumer response

Discussion of the initial changes in September 2025 included concerns about user privacy.[2] Negative reviews on the App Store criticise the requirement for precise location in order to stream content.[3]
