Nvidia threatens GamersNexus

At the start of CES 2025, GamersNexus, a pro consumer tech publication channel, uploaded a video to their YouTube channel exposing Nvidia's scheme of threatening them.[1]

Background

Nvidia's Multi-frame Generation or MFG is an "AI" frame generation technology first debuted on their RTX 50-series of GPUs as part of the DLSS 4.0 family. MFG, for one real frame on screen uses AI to generate three artifical frames of "indistinguishable" quality, which is up from only one generated frame from the preceeding DLSS 3's frame generation.[2]

Nvidia threatens GamersNexus

On May 18, 2025, GamersNexus uploaded a video to their YouTube channel where they exposed Nvidia's attempt at blackmailing them. Nvidia strongly suggested to GN that access to their engineers for future engineering interviews and deep-dives would only be possible if GN underwent an editorial change according to Nvidia's specification. The company's ransom was for longer emphasis on their new MFG technology, currently exclusive only to RTX 50-series offerings, in GN's future reviews of their GPUs. In the video, GN responded to Nvidia's "request" for longer MFG coverage by stating that they provided multiple standalone pieces that span longer than the initial GPU reviews. GN also stated that Nvidia's attempts at strongarming media is utterly pathetic and disingenuous at best.[1] Nvidia's breach of trust has lead to GN opening an investigation and deep-dive into more of the company's shady business practices.[3]

Nvidia's response

Nvidia has yet to provide a response but based on their previous antics it can be assumed there will be minimal if at all any change to company culture at Nvidia.

Consumer response

GamersNexus is well renouned for their pro consumer advocacy and likewise consumers and industry colleagues, such as JayzTwoCents[4], had taken the side of GN and were utterly outraged at Nvidia's sleazy attempt at market control. Due to Nvidia holding greater than 90% of the consumer GPU market and hence being the market leader,[5] many now consider the brand to be a monopoly and hence engaging in such outlandish behavior.[1][3][4] This has lead to some people considering to take their business elsewhere such as Nvidia's competitors, AMD and Intel.[1][3][4]
