Right to repair in the medical industry

I feel like if we want more people to care about these issues, we should branch further out from tech companies and really focus on other hardware and equipment in other industries. Anyway... link dump!

Requesting fix on medical ventilators article - newline after stubnotice

Hi. At the beginning of the Shortage of medical ventilators during the COVID pandemic article, the stubnotice template is on the same line as the first paragraph. This means that non-administrators can not make any changes in the whole first paragraph.

Could you put a newline in after the stubnotice template, so others can edit. Thanks.

I am asking you because I think it was one of your edits that removed the newline. (May have been something the visual editor did.)

I reported the issue on the bugs noticeboard. Under how do you edit beginning of an article with StubNotice? Drakeula (talk) 01:42, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I don't know why that happens, but I went ahead and added a new space in there. I wasn't aware that the first paragraph couldn't be edited. Not sure if that's a bug or not, but thanks for letting me know! Beanie Bo (talk) 02:18, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Pretty sure it is a bug, as discussed here. AnotherConsumerRightsPerson (talk) 14:09, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Consumer data being used by military & govt agencies

Companies and incidents in which your personal data that's been collected aids in blatant violations of human rights by government institutions in the US and abroad. Some of these are articles I've already started, and some are articles I intend to create. In summation, I've learned that Snowden's PRISM reveal was only child's play. Artificial intelligence brings a new layer to surveillance (and how the surveilled data is used) to a new level.

- SafeGraph, a data broker, sells consumer data to the US Air Force "to provide data about the affiliation of, and activity around, physical locations across the globe." And in their own words, "to prevent collateral damage." Wired, The Data Broker That Targeted Abortion Clinics Landed a US Military Contract. https://www.wired.com/story/safegraph-us-air-force-location-data/ The company appears to admit to providing data collected (i.e. stolen) from Chinese infrastructure and citizens. They also (allegedly) lied about selling data to law enforcement agencies.

- X-Mode Social puts spyware into various apps then sells it. They do contracts with military and DoD. Most notably they added spyware into Muslim apps, which it can then be speculated that the military/DoD used this data as a form of "counterterrorism." Vice, How the U.S. Military Buys Location Data from Ordinary Apps https://www.vice.com/en/article/us-military-location-data-xmode-locate-x/?. This sort of data collection has been used in drone strikes and other military operations on the Middle East.

- Clearview AI is a facial recognition software who's founder, Tan-That, appears to have not even the slightest ethical compass. They sell to whoever is accepting, and only after an ACLU lawsuit did they stop selling to private companies, instead selling to governments and law enforcement agencies - even governments with notable violations of civil rights. But, in their words (paraphrasing) they will never sell to China, Russia, or North Korea - all is forgiven. (See: Clearview AI used by law enforcement to crackdown on George Floyd protestors.)

I may aggregate some of this info (particularly of data brokers) for a master article of sorts such as "List of data brokers who sell to military and government agencies." Beanie Bo (talk) 16:31, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question regarding merge

Hello! Regarding the merge for License euthanasia, was it merged with Retroactively amended purchase or Post-purchase EULA modification? It seems there is a double merge request, so I just wanted to double check with you. Mr Pollo (talk) 23:09, 14 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

This was the first I've actually used the merge request, so my mistake if I used it wrong! I added it to Post-purchase EULA modification, so we're good. The other article "Retroactively..." appears to be AI generated and not worth saving in my opinion. Beanie Bo (talk) 01:52, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah no worries, thanks for letting me know! Mr Pollo (talk) 13:06, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
