Summary

The two axle covers removed from a reader's Gotrax electric scooter, set on the concrete. To get them off and reach the tire the owner had to buy security Torx bits he did not already own. For someone who does not want to buy a specialty bit set for a single tire change on a roughly $200 scooter, the cheaper path is to throw the scooter away, the outcome this hardware encourages.

Photograph supplied by the scooter's owner in an email to Louis Rossmann, June 2026. Firsthand, not independently verified.
