General Electric Ovens
Basic Information
Release Year 2022
Product Type Kitchen Range
In Production Yes
Official Website https://www.geappliances.com/ge-appliances/kitchen/ranges/

Some General Electric Ranges and Ovens require that the owner connect the stove to internet connected Wifi and have their SmartHQ app on either IOS or Android phone or device. According to a GE Customer Service rep at 800-626-2005, neither the no preheat air fry function or the convection oven function will work without an internet connection and the app.

There is nothing in the sales literature, or their website about having to connect these products before all the functions will work. Their is no mention of it in the manual either.

General Electric is wholly owned by Haier, a Chinese manufacturing conglomerate.

Locking features until connected to wifi (14 March 2022)[edit | edit source]

General Electric ovens were found to require connection to WiFi before certain features could be used[2]. Even though the ovens contained the necessary physical buttons to turn on these features, the oven would not activate those features until it had been first connected to a WiFi network and the user had connected the oven to the GE Appliances app. The affected features included convection roast, air fry and dehydrate.

Features locked in Wifi equipped kitchen range, model GRF600AV1SS (17 March 2024)

General Electric (Haier) oven delivered Saturday. The air fryer function was not working. Called General Electric help line. Was informed that the range needed to be connected to Wifi with internet access and the app on a phone or tablet. The appliance manager at Lowes, where the oven was purchased, arranged for me to exchange the oven for another one that does not require internet access.
