This for profit company has come into Garland and schmoozed the city council into signing a contract with them that automatically opts in all residents. Many elderly and low income residents won't even know that they are being charged as it is buried in their water bill. Some are on auto-draft and never even open a bill. Some have limited access to smart phones and computers. Some will not understand the service and think that they have to pay. The city should never have gotten involved with this in any way.
Those with Medicare and health insurance should do everything through their own primary care doctor. They can call and get help such as a triage nurse and the doctor on call after hours. These texting docs with MD Health Pathways may not have access to your medical records, so they may not know your health history, current prescriptions, drug allergies, pre-existing conditions, weight and so much more. They cannot check your heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygenation. This covers no testing, no procedures and no medications. It is extremely limited and a risky way to practice medicine.
The way they do business is very questionable. Their target customer is small cities that can be conned into opting in all their residents. Then they plan to infiltrate the churches, schools (all of which have nurses on campus,) local businesses and community events in the city. So, in essence the city is supporting and advertising for a for profit business that is little more than a scam. Contracts are signed long before the taxpayers / citizens have any information and chance to weigh in on whether they support this service.
They claim to be a provider of preventative medicine which is patently false. They allude to being a substitute for and reducing the need for EMS (emergency medical services.) They tout kids returning to school several days earlier thanks to them with no long term data to support that. They claim economic benefits with less missed work and on and on without long term statistics that are independently verified to show any of that.
The cheesy testimonials, some of which that were put up by employees are not something that reputable doctors would openly solicit.
This needs to be thoroughly investigated by law enforcement. It is not insurance or real healthcare, but rather a way to make hundreds of thousands of dollars off of getting their for profit business on every taxpayers monthly utility / water bill.
