Amazon's response

edit

A spokesperson from Amazon said they took this step to look inwards and focusing their efforts "on the Appstore experience on our own devices, as that’s where the overwhelming majority of our customers currently engage with it.” They also stated that only a small amount of customers use the app store outside Amazon devices, and that made them decide to take this step.[3]
