Shimano, Inc. is a Japanese multinational manufacturing company that produces bicycling components, fishing tackle, and rowing equipment. The company was founded by and named after Shozaburo Shimano.

E-bike components

Customers with Shimano motors including the EP6 and EP801 are restricted from connecting electrical equipment such as lights to their E-bikes. Special software and hardware primarily used by bike shops is required to activate ports or accept new devices. What used to be a click on an app is now a trip to a bike shop or paying hundreds for diagnostic equipment.

Faulty cranksets

Some cranksets produced by Shimano have defects making them prone to breaking and injuring bicyclists. During March 2026, Shimano agreed to pay a $11.5 million civil penalty for failing to immediately report cranksets that posed a crash hazard.
